Chestnut Homework – Friday 28th November 2014

Chestnut English Homework Friday 28th November, due in Wednesday 3rd December

In English this week we have been learning about speech punctuation. For homework you need to write a silent conversation with a member of your family.

Remember the speech punctuation rules:

  • Speech marks hug the words being spoken.
  • Include a comma, question mark or exclamation mark between the spoken words and the reporting clause.
  • Use a new line for each new speaker.
  • Start each new speaker’s words with a capital letter.

Following on from our science lesson on inherited traits, you need to write down three sentences that describe physical traits and three sentences that describe personality traits that you have inherited from one or both of your parents. Try to think about why you have chosen these traits and if anyone else in the family also has them.

The spellings this week are all ending in  – ence

experience, evidence, difference, influence, science, presence, sentence, audience, absence, sequence

The first five are for commas group, all ten for semi colons.

There is also a worksheet linked to the work we have been doing on complex sentences.

Chestnut Class Homework 7th November 2104

Hello Chestnut Class,

I hope you have enjoyed the reading festival so far as much as I have. I know you’ve all enjoyed our ‘Stop and Read’ sessions.

I really enjoyed learning the ‘Frost Unicorn’ with you as well.

For homework this week I would like you to read at least three times with an adult.

Please ask the adult to write a comment in your reading record book each time they listen to you read.

Happy reading!

Mrs Parmiter
